Let's have a look at the key players in affiliate marketing. There are mainly 4 important players in any type of affiliate marketing. These are the merchant. the product creator or what we call as company, the network that supports marketing, the affiliate who does marketing of the products and the customer who buys the products of the company. While all four key players must exist, each of them is equally important in successful affiliate marketing.

The merchant or the product creator is also known as the advertiser and he is normally the company who is offerings its products or services for sale. There are many companies today that rightly feel that if they want to grow successfully online then they should market their products well.

Many companies today outsource their marketing to affiliates who are ready to do marketing based on a certain percentage of commission through traffic and sales affected by them. Hence this is a win win situation for the advertiser and the affiliate, the advertiser gets targeted traffic to his offer while the affiliate gets his commission if that traffic converts to sales .

The advertisers/publishers/affiliates network consists of the medium through which the marketing efforts are carried out. Today the most preferred network used is the internet as it is quick and it is fast. It does not have any global boundaries and an advertisement put up on the internet from anywhere in the world can be seen by people, no matter in which country they are residing. Hence if you want to be a successful affiliate marketer then you should definitely learn the ways of doing it on the internet. The affiliate network is also called as a middleman between the advertiser and affiliate marketer.

Next in line is the affiliate. He is a person who control the traffic and markets the advertisers products and services and gets commission in return. He uses media such as the internet to market the products of the company in different ways such as link building and email marketing in a case that he own a subscriber list, article and video marketing, social marketing, blogs, seo, content syndication or pre selling techniques. When a customer clicks on the affiliate link, he is led to the website of the advertiser. Hence more and more customers will come to know about the advertiser and the products that it offers. The affiliate is then paid as a percentage of the sales that are made through his reference.

Smart affiliates direct traffic from their own blog or website to the advertiser’s website so instead of sending the traffic directly to the advertiser squeeze or sales page, they might even use their own squeeze page for pre selling purposes or for lead capture before directing so they won't lose the traffic they've worked hard to get.

As a smart affiliate you will have to create a good looking website that will convert your affiliate offers. I get emails from affiliates that can't understand why they aren't doing any money after using various traffic techniques that brings in traffic. When I check their funnel, I see ugly squeeze or landing pages, blogs or websites, so I can clearly see why their offers can't convert to sales.

You just can not do everything right except the last step, this is where all happen, this is where you should put efforts in, this is where you should use your copy-writing skills and if you don't have any, just think as a buyer and use the words that would convince you to buy the products, don't just kill the page with words, ugly font, unrelated images or ugly headers etc. This is where the traffic lands and it should feel like it landed where it should be. I've used the word traffic for dramatization purposes but in fact it is buyers.

Choose what type of products you would like to advertise. We've been talking a lot on how to choose a product. I would just say that you must find a hungry niche, a product that will solve an immediate problem (key), and that that niche has a significant amount of monthly searches. Sign up for the marketing or affiliate program and then decide the ways in which you will promote the products of the company.

There are endless ways in which an affiliate can choose the advertiser but there's only one better way. You will absolutely need to carefully check the product you are going to promote and even buy it if you can not get a look at it. You must ensure that the product should be interesting enough for you to sell, that the product will benefit your subscribers and then you will need to check the advertiser sales funnel.

Check traffic stats, where the traffic you'll send will land, a squeeze page or directly to the sales page. If it will land on the sales page than you can use pre-sell techniques to pre-sell the product on one of your pages to increase conversions. Ask what are the conversion rates of the landings pages, the estimate $ per click (EPC). I even check about the back end products that the advertiser will use and if I get any commission on the back end as well and the payouts.

As an affiliate who wants to build a sustainable online business, you must carefully go through these steps to choose the advertiser you will send precious traffic to his sales funnel, so if your traffic converts to sales, both you, the affiliate and the advertiser are in for a long time collaboration, and it might be useful to know that you both, sees online marketing and business growth the same.

So you have decided to become an affiliate marketer? Before proceeding further it is best that you know what you will be doing as most affiliate marketers aren't so successful as they want you to believe. What I have learnt the hard way, is that you must have the proper mindset about online marketing, you must feel and vision your success while not letting your head's little voices to let you down when it gets tough, because when you yet to master most online marketing areas, affiliate marketing might be tough sometimes.

I would like to share a little secret with you, all successful online marketers had bad times, difficult learning curve and failures before achieving their success. Not succeeding is an integral part of success. We are all different so each individual while experiencing his own failures, will learn from his own experiences and with each failure, will be a step closer to achieving success. I've heard about people who were born rich but never heard about one that was born successful.

Having said that I would like to clear up another point. You should ideally prepare a step by step approach about how you will begin your campaign of affiliate marketing. To begin with, you will first need to tie up with companies that promote affiliate marketing. You can maybe try to find out a market segment that will excite you such as sports, travel or something similar. 

Once you have found out which market segment you are interested in, you can proceed to narrow down your component. For example, if you have chosen sports then the smaller component may be golf products and then breaking it down to sub niches. Once you have decide on your marketing component you can proceed to select the company who is marketing the related products. You can then read or find out the credentials of the company such as its commission structure, whether it pays on time, etc.

Once you have decided the product and the company for whom you will be doing affiliate marketing you will have to do it in a planned manner. It is best that you prepare the necessary steps to action on your computer or on paper. After you have found out that market segment in which you want to do affiliate marketing you will have to select a product for which you will be doing marketing.

Try to promote those products about which you are confident in marketing. Also you should choose those products which interest you otherwise that natural flair of marketing will not come into you. There are several people who end up marketing the products that don’t interest them with not so great results. It is natural that you are bound to do a good job about a product that interests you. You must consider that if you are going to make money with promoting that product you are in for the long haul, so you'd better choose according to your interests.

Once you choose the product that you want to market you should learn all details about the product. This way you can market confidently about the product and you will also be able to answered questions that the customers ask about the product. However, at least at the beginning, your main job is to lead customer’s to the company’s website and normally the product development department answers questions posted by the customers.

The next step is to find out what your niche market is and this normally depends on a few factors, the chief amongst them being the type of product that you are selling. For example, if you are selling golf clubs then you should target the American and the Japanese markets first as people in these countries love to play golf. You should ideally come up with content to describe the product and the company you are promoting. The content should contain important keywords that are normally entered by customers in a search engine such as Google. For starters, you can join a company such as Clickbank that has lots of products that you can choose and promote.   
 
Please note that It's useless to find a niche with high demand and high competition as this might get much longer to achieve results so you'd better find even a small sub niche within that niche and here comes the big secret of successful affiliate marketers, KEYWORDS. Keywords is the only element that may hide the big online money and keyword research is key.

After finding the niche that you are interested by, you must do a complete research to be sure that there’s a high demand for that niche and if that niche has less competition, you should move forward and start a deeper research before going for it.

It would take a lot of time to get into the niche and keyword research process here but just to highlight some important steps for the new affiliate marketer, if I would start keyword research for any niche, that's what I will put most of my time into. I will try to find a group of keywords that will have a decent amount of monthly searches with the least competition possible, A decent monthly searches per month would be 5k -20k and if that word hasn't less competition, I would search for as many related keywords to that top one and would certainly prepare an affiliate marketing campaign.

In the previous article of this series, I've covered some of the basics on how you can make money online with affiliate marketing. In this post, we will see how you can earn loads of cash by employing affiliate marketing strategy.

Lately I’ve read a post where the blogger thinks that affiliate marketing is soon to be dead because of Google's recent updates and to his experience with affiliate marketing which led him to conclude that it's getting harder and harder to make money with affiliate marketing.

A few year back, affiliate marketing was compared to the rush for gold, many jumped on the opportunity and have found that gold while Google's recent updates simply wont allow any more to dig the way they did. I still think there's a lot of gold to be digged, the only difference is that today you should acquire marketing knowledge and use different approach and tools to dig for that gold which is still out there in huge quantities.

I found my self reading that posts comments, many of them opine that the days of affiliate marketing have come to an end thanks to Google. However, this is far from truth, and top affiliate marketers are raking in chunky commissions even today. Many of them will even tell you it's easier if you know how and what you are doing.

As long as there are people who are searching for information and products online, affiliate marketing will never die. I can agree with the argument that Google's recent updates has changed the affiliate marketing game and forced us to change the way we do business online, but I think that these changes are better for global internet users and if we, affiliate marketers, will adapt ourselves to the new methods affiliate marketing is forcing us to use, it might be easier to make money online simply because a big part of the new generation of affiliates aren't real marketers who are prepared to put the extra effort into their campaigns so, a big number of them are leaving the affiliate marketing arena and leaving us, marketers, a lot more of space.

I've seen many of them heading to FaceBook as they can reach a big slice of FaceBook members without really changing their affiliate game and some are making money but still, I think that real targeted buyers are easier to find on Google and although FaceBook has a bigger slice of the global internet traffic today, it's a social network and a big number of it's members are there for different reasons except for buying. Google can not be neglected, Google today is by far a lot more targeted and if you are planing to build an online business, you should adapt to it's rules.

Today, we will talk about affiliate marketing strategy that will have your subscribers jump in and buy what you are selling. So, instead of randomly picking up any product to promote, follow the steps mentioned below, and you will see that your sales will pick up and you will be earning commissions round the clock.

Choosing a niche: Ok, you are not creating your product, but you still need to select a niche where people are willing to throw open their wallets for you. But the trick is to find a niche where you don’t face severe competition. For example, there’s a huge demand for weight loss programs, but then, there is even severe competition in this niche. So, within weight loss program, you need to identify areas where the competition is less. For example, you can narrow down competition by selecting vegetarian diet food and even narrow down that sub niche to find a smaller one which still have the demand – searches with less competition.

Google's update – Adding Value to your webpage and Giving Value to your customers

Now, most affiliate marketers fail because they simply use a non search engine optimized landing page or they are using the same landing page as the product creator uses, they provide a link with a subscription box and except their customers to pay. Well, that was in the past. Google is not indexing these pages any more and banned users accounts who uses that strategy.

Today, you need to give value to your customers. Taking the vegetarian diet food example further, you should add value to your landing pages by having an SEO unique content of approximately 500+ words on it that is relevant to the page search terms while putting attention to the page meta tags, H's and all SEO components that a web page should have. If you are using WordPress there are many useful plugin's that can help you with these SEO tasks, and never place the subscription box at the beginning of the page, you can place it on the right side or closer to the end of the page.

You should change the way you used to think about landing pages. These are web pages that needs to be indexed and climb their way on the search engine results page – SERP. Use RSS submissions, article marketing, bookmarking, blog comments, social marketing strategies and content syndication plugin's etc. to build links to that web page, that's the way to build passive income from affiliate marketing.

You can prepare a report on say weight loss advantages of the vegetarian diet or whatever your narrowed niche is. You can also include tips on healthy cooking and some quick recipes in your report and if you are using email marketing, send them to your subscribers for free. Just ask them for their name and email address when they download your free report, without making any sales pitch at the moment.

You can also upload that report to free downloads sites so it can go viral and if you have followed Google's rules you could re-use their PPC platform to drive targeted traffic to your web page.

Your subscribers will definitely be impressed when they see a content rich report. After another week, you can create another report on say harmful effects of junk food. Try to include some research and statistics in your report to make it valuable. You can also engage in a conversation with your subscribers by asking them to post their comments and views on your landing page. Do make a sincere effort to reply to their queries.

And then, a week or so after that, you can pick up an affiliate program to promote vegetarian weight loss diet, and ask your subscribers to click on the link to buy the product.

Since you have created trust amongst your subscribers, you will see that they will not ignore your mail, and you will receive a better response.

The best thing about affiliate marketing is that you can promote another product after a few weeks in the same niche, or you can choose another niche of your liking. Whatever you choose, the above strategy will drastically improve your sales and of course your commission, and your list will grow bigger and bigger, with every successful offer.
